UPDATE: Both hockey games between UVic and Okanagan have been cancelled

Hockey fans are invited to a special game at the Cowichan Arena this weekend.

The University of Victoria Vikes are visiting Lake Cowichan this Saturday for an exhibition match against the Okanagan Lakers.

The game on starts at 5:15 p.m.

Tickets are $10. Admission is free for minor hockey players in their team jerseys.

Both teams are members of the B.C. Intercollegiate Hockey League. The Vikes are affiliated with UVic, while the Lakers consist of players from UBC Okanagan and Okanagan College.

“The hockey is amazing,” Vikes general manager Harry Schamhart said. “We would very much like to see the community attend the games.”

Most players in the BCIHL previously played in junior A and junior B hockey. Among UVic players of interest to Cowichan Valley hockey fans include Duncan product Ty Rennie, who played goal for the Kerry Park Islanders from 2013 to 2016, as well as Kenyon Carda (Kerry Park Islanders, 2018-21), Louis Ferraro (Kerry Park Islanders, 2020-21), Alex Benger (Cowichan Valley Capitals, 2017-18), Jacob King (Kerry Park Islanders, 2017-18), and Ryan Warner (Cowichan Valley Capitals, 2015-16).
