The Minister of Defence is coming to Cowichan.
Stephanie Labbé, the heroic goalkeeper from Canada’s gold-medal win in women’s soccer at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, is set to put on a three-hour clinic for young players at the Sherman Road soccer fields on Sunday, June 12.
The clinic is for players ages seven to 14, and runs from 9 a.m. to noon. The $95 registration fee includes an introduction, warm-up, soccer skills session, cool-down, and an inspirational talk with Q&A session. There will be a group photo taken with Labbé and her gold medal, and each player will also receive a signed poster.
Ten lucky players will also get the chance to take a penalty kick on Labbé.
The event is capped at 100 players.
“It’s such a special occasion to have one of the best female goalkeepers in the world coming to the Cowichan Valley,” Cowichan Valley Soccer Association technical director Tyler Hughes said. “For the young people to hear and see from such an incredible role model could have a lifetime effect on these players. It’s not everyday, you get this experience from an Olympic Gold Medallist.
