The Vernon Vipers’ loss is the Cowichan Valley Capitals’ gain.

The Capitals have acquired 19-year-old Mackenzie Bauer from Vernon in exchange for future considerations.

“Mackenzie had a very good start to the season and has lots of potential,” said Capitals Head Coach and General Manager Bob Beatty on Tuesday.

The forward from Three Hills, Alberta had five goals and four assists in 27 games in his first season in the BCHL last year.

Five of those points came in his first five games but an injury sidelined the rookie for nearly three months after his hot start.

He bounced back for a solid showing in the playoffs, however, potting a goal and three assists.

“Mackenzie is an intelligent player who plays hard and will improve our club,” Beatty said.

Bauer and the rest of the Capitals players and coaches will be at the Island Savings Centre for the start of training camp beginning Saturday, Aug. 22.
