Caps will kick off against Powell River

The Cowichan Valley Capitals will begin and end the 2016-17 B.C. Hockey League season with home games against the Powell River Kings.

The Cowichan Valley Capitals will begin and end the 2016-17 B.C. Hockey League season with home games against the Powell River Kings, the same team that ousted the Caps from the playoffs in a six-game series last March.

The BCHL regular-season schedule was released this month, once again featuring 58 games for each team: 28 at home, 28 on the road, and two at the Bauer BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack.

The Caps will play seven regular-season games in September, 13 in October, 10 in November, eight in December, 10 in January and 10 in February.

Cowichan will open the season at home against Powell River on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. After another home date, against the Victoria Grizzlies on Sept. 13, they will play their first road game, also against Victoria, on Sept. 17.

The Caps’ two contests at the Showcase in Chilliwack include a “road game” against Surrey on Sept. 22 and a “home game” against Merritt on Sept. 23.

One highlight on the calendar is Cowichan’s home game against the Wenatchee Wild on Jan. 28, a rematch of one of the most hotly anticipated games from last season, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

The Caps’ last game of the season will be at home against the Kings on Feb. 26 at 2 p.m.

Cowichan returned to the BCHL playoffs last season after a three-year absence, losing four games to two in the first round against the Kings.
