Chemainus midgets end season with tournament win

Chemainus's midget baseball team wrapped up the 2015 season in fine form last weekend by winning their home tournament at the recently christened Larry Irving Field.

Starting the tournament ranked fourth, Chemainus had to defeat the top two teams, both from Oceanside, in their last two games in order to clinch.

They beat Oceanside 1 in the semifinal, then won it all with a 9-6 victory over Oceanside 2 in a nail-biter of a final.

The tournament field was rounded out with three teams from Nanaimo.

Chemainus's MVPs for the tournament were Jordan Bennett, Jaysen Paddle and Bryan Wheeler.

The team expressed thanks to coaches Derek Parsey Sr., Troy Cornett, Ethan Whitelaw and Adam Fukakusa, as well as supporter Rick Shay.
