The Cowichan Valley Capitals have added another veteran forward to the mix after acquiring 2000-born forward Tom Richter from the Prince George Spruce Kings on Tuesday, with future considerations going the other way.

A product of Greenwich, Connecticut, Richter has already committed to play NCAA Div. 1 hockey at Union College starting in 2021-22. He made his B.C. Hockey League debut in 2019-20, playing all 56 regular-season games for the Spruce Kings and finishing with 10 points on two goals and eight assists. He was held without a point in Prince George’s four playoff games.

“Thomas is an experienced player in the BCHL who will bring speed, depth, and leadership to our team,” Capitals head coach Geoff Grimwood said. “We are excited to have him here and feel there is a lot of upside to his game.”

Before he came do the BCHL, Richter played high school hockey at the Brunswick School and Salisbury School in his home state of Connecticut, posting 29 points in 15 goals and 14 assists over 80 games. He is the son of former NHL goaltender Mike Richter, who spent 14 seasons with the NHL, all with the New York Rangers, winning the Stanley Cup in 1994.
