There’s been a lot of change for the Cowichan Valley Capitals recently including the new addition of 16-year-old forward Dryden Kuramoto.

Kuramoto began the year with the Chilliwack Chiefs but when the Capitals faced the Chiefs on Friday, he was officially a Cowichan player despite not dressing for the game.

Kuramoto isn’t a new face to a few members of the Capitals.

Last season as a member of the Vancouver North East Chiefs of the BCEHL he played with current Capitals forward Matthew Biros and was coached by current Capitals Assistant Coach Jamie Jackson.

“Kuramoto finished with a point per game, 14 goals and 26 points in 26 games played, seventh most on the team. He added another 11 points in seven playoff games,” said the Caps in a press release. “That Chiefs team went on to win the BCEHL last season.”

The acquisition means Bennet Barnes was released from Cowichan’s roster.

In other Capitals roster news, left winger Luke Strickland was named to the BCHL All-Star team.

The BCHL All-Star weekend includes an outdoor All-Star game and Top Prospects game in Penticton Jan. 20-22.

“Strickland leads the Capitals and is second in the BCHL in goals with 13 in 17 games, and is tied for sixth in the BCHL with 21 points,” said a Caps press release.

Strickland is committed to Long Island University for next season.

Fans have the opportunity to vote Massimo Lombardi into the All-Star event from now until Friday, Nov. 25 at 4 p.m., by visiting www.bchl.ca/fanvote.

In other commitment news, defenceman Will Elias has committed to the NCAA Division 1 Holy Cross Crusaders men’s hockey program.

Elias joins forwards Strickland (Long Island), Massimo Lombardi (Vermont), Luke Lavery (Providence), Jackson Morehouse (Dartmouth) and defenceman Aaron Brown (Quinnipiac) as players committed to NCAA Division 1 Hockey Programs.
