The Cowichan Piggies' struggles on Port Alberni's rugby pitch continued last Saturday as they lost 20-7 at the hands of the Black Sheep in the second game of the Cowichan Cup season.
"We had a really poor first half," Cowichan head coach Gord McGeachy admitted. "We made some really poor choices in our own end. The weather was brutal; it was not a good day for ball-handling. It seemed like every time we turned the ball over, it led to points against us."
It was 20-0 for Alberni midway through the first half, and stayed that way until the halftime break. Alberni continued to dominate play in the first third of the last half, and by the time Cowichan got some momentum, it was too late.
"In the last half-hour of the game, we had some sustained pressure, but we only scored one try," McGeachy reported.
That try came courtesy of Australian import Lehi Dudley, with Owen Wood adding the conversion.
Cowichan's senior women's team didn't fare any better, losing 36-17 to UBC Okanagan in Kelowna on Saturday. Both teams have a bye this weekend.
