The postseason will begin for the Cowichan Rats this Saturday with a home game at the Cowichan Arena, with a potential game on Monday night as well.

The defending Vancouver Island Lacrosse League champions will hit the floor at 7:30 p.m. in a semifinal against either the Victoria Blazers or WSANEC Arrows, who are scheduled to square off in Esquimalt on Thursday night.

The winner of that game will advance to the VILL championship series. If the Rats win on Saturday, they will play at home on Monday night (July 11) against the winner of Thursday night’s semifinal between the Victoria Jokers and Saanich Express.

Admission to all games is free.

The Rats finished the regular season with 13 wins and two losses, second in the league behind the Express, who topped the standings with 14 wins and one loss. The Rats were the only team to beat the Express, and the Express were the only team to beat the Rats.

Cowichan’s Tyson Black finished second in league scoring with 68 points on 41 goals and 27 assists in 14 games, and Brayden Zunti was third with 65 points on 38 goals and 27 helpers, also in 14 games. Dylan Dewarle and Clayton Vickers also finished among the league’s top 10 scorers: Dewarle with eight goals and 25 assists in 12 contests, and Vickers with 20 goals and 11 assists in 14 appearances.

Ryan Brabander led the league in all goaltending categories, posting a .832 save percentage and 4.73 goals-against average, with one shutout in 15 games.
