Cowichan Secondary leads the way at Mid-Island track meet

Brentwood second in gold-medal standings, Kelsey third

Cowichan Secondary School led the way with 43 first-place finishes at the Mid-Island track and field championships on May 9 and 10.

Eleven different schools earned at least one gold medal in the annual event at the Cowichan Sportsplex. Behind Cow High, Brentwood College School had 16 firsts, Frances Kelsey had 14, and Queen of Angels had 11.

The athletes with the most individual gold medals included Queen of Angels’ Jayda Lauzon with five at the midget girls level and Cowichan Secondary’s Emma Dewit with four at the senior girls level. Jessica Castle (bantam girls), Gavin Pringle (bantam boys), Daniel Larson (bantam boys) and Oliver Castle (junior boys), all of Cowichan Secondary, each claimed three individual golds.
