Tony Grover Cup play will begin this weekend for Cowichan’s two masters men’s soccer teams, including a home date for the Cowichan Steelheads at the Sherman Road turf this Saturday.

The Steelheads will take to the pitch at 8 p.m. against the Pace FC Wolfpack. The Steelheads have struggled in the top O35 division, with two wins, three draws and nine losses through 14 games, while the Wolfpack sit near the bottom of the O35B division, with a 3-2-11 record.

In their most recent game, the Steelheads played to a 3-0 loss to UVic Alumni at the Sherman Road turf this past Saturday.

UVic will be the Cowichan 49ers’ first-round opponent in the cup tournament, meaning only one of the top two teams will advance.

The 49ers won the Tony Grover Cup in their first four years of existence, from 2016 to 2019, then lost to UVic in 2020, the last year the tournament was held.
