Two teammates from the U16B Cowichan Thunder will get the chance to represent B.C. in box lacrosse at the Canada Summer Games later this year.

Goalie Anikka MacDonald and runner Elora Waardenburg will suit up for Team BC at the Games in Ontario’s Niagara Region this August.

“It’s gonna be awesome,” said an enthusiastic MacDonald.

MacDonald has played lacrosse for seven years and Waardenburg for 11 years, but this will their first time suiting up for Team BC in box lacrosse. Waardenburg has represented the province in field lacrosse on two prior occasions, however, and MacDonald did so once.

Both girls tried out for Team BC prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and decided to give it another shot this year, making it through a series of three cuts before they made the final roster. Both players admitted they were nervous before the final team was announced. They will now travel to the Mainland for once-a-week practice before the Games in August.
