The Cowichan Piggies First Division women’s team cleaned up as the hosts of an Island rugby jamboree last Saturday.

The Cowichan side won all three of their games, most notably beating Castaway Wanderers 17-0 in an XV match. The Piggies also defeated Nanaimo 20-5 and Comox 35-0 playing 10-a-side.

“It was nice to be back out there,” team captain Sherry Spence commented.

This year’s squad has a mix of players ranging from experienced internationals Tyson Beukeboom and Laura Russell to new additions like Deanna Cvitanovich and Kaitlyn Crichton who have moved up through the junior ranks and made their senior debuts on Saturday.

Cowichan is scheduled to play at home against James Bay this Saturday at 1 p.m., but the fixture may be cancelled if James Bay can’t round up enough players.
