Cowichan's Doyle brothers crack national team

Cowichan Valley climbing brothers Aidan and Brennan Doyle have been named to the national team after successful performances at the Canadian National Speed and Difficulty Climbing Championships over the Victoria Day long weekend.

More than 300 of the best climbers from across the country gathered at the Boulders Climbing Gym in Victoria to compete for the Canadian titles in the two disciplines, while also trying to get on the national team radar.

Brennan swept both the difficulty and speed categories in his group, collecting a pair of gold medals, and was the first climber named to the national team. Aidan had a rough start and was called off the wall for a technical error, but rallied and set a personal best in the speed category and was also named to the national team.

Aidan has now qualified for the World Youth Climbing Championships in Italy this summer, and both brothers have qualified for the 2015 Pan Am championships.
