History was made not once, not twice, but three times for Queen Margaret’s School on Oct. 17.

For the first time ever, QMS had a senior boys soccer team compete at the Senior Boys Soccer 1A Island Championship, which this year was hosted by St. Andrew’s Regional High School in Victoria.

Also, for the first time ever, that very same team went on to win bronze.

Already seeded strongly coming into the tournament, the Royals played their semi-final match against NISS. It was a tough game with QMS losing 4-2, yet their teamwork continued to build. Scoring for the Royals were Player of the Game Carter Zuback, and Isaac Morgan.

The QMS squad then went on to play Duncan Christian School for bronze and the opportunity to qualify for the Provincial Championships.

“The boys had a phenomenal first half burying four goals by the DCS keeper in quick succession,” said a press release from the school. “DCS battled back to make it a 4-3 game before the referee blew his whistle for the last time.”

Player of the Game Thoran Koyote scored a hat trick for the Royals with Hugh Smith adding the fourth goal.

The victory qualifies the team for this year’s BC Provincial Championships which take place in Burnaby Nov. 2-4, another first in QMS history.
