Crew, Ravens and BSB win as CWFL season kicks off

Women’s football returns to action at McAdam Park

After a forfeited season opener last Friday night, the Cowichan Women’s Football League really got things going with a full slate of games at McAdam Park on Sunday morning.

In the morning games, the Crew beat the Storm 46-6 and Blue Steel Brew shut out the Wild 29-0, and in the afternoon match, the Ravens topped the Law 26-6.

Marilou Sullivan and Wilhelmina Toews each scored two touchdowns for the Crew, and Jennie Hittinger, Darbi Atchison and Janelle Mould scored one apiece. Jessica Lines added three converts, and on defence, Nenagh McCulloch had a sack and Mould recorded an interception.

The Storm responded with a 45-yard touchdown run by Caitlin Evans, while Kyla Toljander had a sack and Kristen Labao had an interception.

Monni Savory led BSB with three touchdowns and a convert, while Heidi Haslam, Jessica May and Kara Espeseth also scored once each. Shelby Wilcox and Michelle Nederlof also had converts. The Wild got two sacks from Piper Doerksen and a pick from Jeannine Gaudreau.

Jamie Russell led the Ravens with two touchdowns, and Autumn Cooper and Leah McCormick had one apiece, while Becki Paterson contributed a pair of converts. Tanya Green had the Law’s lone major, while Shelley Hodgins had a pick and Megan Newton recorded a sack.
