Alexa Dow and Sion Griffiths were honoured at the Cowichan Valley Athletic Club’s annual award banquet in February for posting the best single female and male performances of the 2016 track and field season.

Dow received the recognition for her 1000m time of three minutes and 40.58 seconds at the B.C. Junior Development Track and Field Championships in Surrey in July, while Griffiths was celebrated for his javelin throw of 54.71 metres at the Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships in Quebec in August.

Those weren’t the only awards they received, as Dow was named the club’s outstanding female tyke athlete of the year, and Griffiths was named the outstanding male juvenile athlete. Dow also received the female cross-country award, while Thomas Croasdale took home the male cross-country award.

Rounding out the outstanding female athletes were peewee Katelyn Lenarcic, bantam Aisha Werner, midget Madelynn Pollock, and juvenile Emma Dewit. The other outstanding male athletes were tyke Nathan Day, peewee Evan Mayer, bantam Shadynn Smid, and midget Anthony Else.

Pierce Jones received the congeniality/sportsmanship award, and Jessica Castle received the Knuckle Down Athlete award. Sport Chek gift cards went to Keiran Marrett-Hitch, Gina Martin, Margo Blumel, Alexandra Lazenby, Tristan Siebel, Lily Hallquist and Graeme Dailey.
