The Duncan Blue Jays claimed double honours at the Hopwo Mosquito Baseball Tournament in Chemainus earlier this month.
Not only did the Blue Jays win the tournament championship, beating the Ladysmith White Sox 7-5 in the gold-medal game, but they were also named the Most Sportsmanlike Team.
The Jays cruised through pool play with wins over the Ladysmith Mariners (15-4), Chemainus Red Heat (15-1), Duncan Pirates (7-3) and Saltspring Red Sox (5-2).
Four of the 12 teams in the tournament ended up with 4-0 records after the round robin, all advancing to the playoffs, with the Blue Jays playing for first while the Ladysmith Pirates topped the Duncan Cardinals 10-4 in the third-place game.
The Blue Jays roster included Wyatt Blace, Hudson Closson, Tylon Closson, Lincoln Hunton, Jacob Leamy, Adam McComb, Carter Mayhew-McCloy, Jared Smith, Bennett Stone, Damien Sutton, and Tate Wilkinson.
Rounding out the field at the tournament were the Chemainus Green Devil Rays, Duncan Tri Port Stingers, Ladysmith A’s and Saltspring Blue Jays.
