Duncan Christian School students Clare Scholefield and Ethan Mitchell received the 2022 Jack Boersma Junior Athlete Awards from the BC Christian Secondary Schools Athletic Association.

The awards of $250 toward a sports camp of the recipients’ choosing go to Grade 10 students at Christian secondary schools who display athletic ability, scholastic achievement, leadership and character, and participation in their school, community and church.

Scholefield was named the Most Improved Player on the senior girls volleyball team and also played senior girls basketball. She spent countless hours officiating volleyball and basketball, and was recognized as an Outstanding Minor Official. Scholefield also received a DCS Servant Leadership Award in the area of Student Life, and volunteers in her church’s Sunday school program.

Mitchell played for the junior boys volleyball and basketball teams, and joined the senior boys basketball team late in the season. He officiated elementary and high school basketball games, and, in the words of DCS athletic director Tom Veenstra, contributes to the positive atmosphere of this school through his fun-loving, positive and encouraging personality. Mitchell received a DCS Servant Leadership Award in the area of Athletics.
