Duncan’s Carley Hardie brought home a bronze medal from the Canadian U18 girls Curling Championships last month.
Hardie played lead on Comox-based Team Richards, which won the right to represent B.C. after winning the provincial U18 title in January.
“It was an amazing experience playing at the Canadians and wearing the B.C. colours, and to see all the other teams in their province’s colours as well,” Hardie said of the national championships, which took place in Oakville, Ont. on May 1-7.
Skipped by Gracelyn Richards, the team also included third Keelie Dunn and second Grace McCusker, and was coached by Adam Duncan.
The Canadian championships included 21 U18 girls teams representing all 10 provinces and the Northwest Territories.
Team Richards went 4-2 in pool play to qualify for the playoffs. They opened the playoffs with a 7-3 win over Nova Scotia, but were edged 7-6 in the semifinals by Alberta 2 on a last-shot draw. Team BC bounced back in the bronze-medal game, however, beating Quebec 1 6-4. Alberta 1 got past Alberta 2 3-1 to win gold.
