After 16 years at the Cowichan Valley Citizen newspaper, sports reporter Kevin Rothbauer has moved on.

Kevin started with the Citizen in 2006 and quickly became a mainstay at the paper. Over the years he’s covered everything from fires to fundraisers, but his passion has always been community sports. It’s a beat he has chronicled exhaustively for us over the last decade and a half, displaying the many achievements of the Valley’s athletes and teams for the whole community to applaud. From the North American Indigenous Games to the BC Summer Games, lacrosse to hockey and everything in between, he’s been there to share with us all the ups and the downs.

We at the Citizen will miss him greatly and he leaves big shoes to fill. As we search for someone to take up the sports mantle, we would like to request that those in the sports community help us out by sending in results from games and matches and be patient with story tips, so we can try to keep up with your sport, as we will not, at least in the short term, have someone to chase down every lead, as Kevin did so ably.

Join us in wishing him well in his new job, and celebrating his enormous contribution to the Citizen.

Thanks Kevin!
