Since starting the season with two wins in their first three games, the Cowichan Outlaws have been unable to get back into the win column.
Things looked good for the Lower Island Women’s Soccer Association Div. 2 team on Sunday as they held a 1-0 halftime lead over Vic West, a team with just one win prior to their game against Cowichan. They couldn’t hold on, however, and ended up on the wrong side of a 3-1 final score.
Meghan Watkins scored her first goal of the season to give the Outlaws the 1-0 lead, while two other early chances right on the goal line didn’t pan out for Cowichan.
Kerynne Bain had another standout performance in goal.
It didn’t help that the Outlaws had barely enough players to field a team, with only 12 on hand for the home game.
Outlaws head coach Neall Rowlings was hardest on himself after the loss.
“I’m over blaming the team,” he said. “Winning starts from the top, and I am going to train with the girls this week and try to set a high standard for our game in Prospect Lake on Sunday. We beat this team 3-0 but they have had some good results recently and they will be prepared.”
Cowichan’s other LIWSA team, the Over 30A Cougars, had their match against Prospect Lake postponed due to the weather last Friday.
The Cougars are scheduled to visit Juan de Fuca this Friday.
