When a team dropped out of last weekend’s B.C. Christian Tier 2 Senior Girls basketball Championship tournament at the last minute leaving a hole in the draw, it could have spelled disaster. Instead, it spelled Q.M.S.

Duncan Christian School was hosting the event and athletic director knew how to save the day: he called the school’s friends over at Queen Margarets School to see if their senior girls team wanted to fill in. The squad jumped at the opportunity and began the tournament facing off against the very team that extended the last minute invite in the tournament’s first game, on Friday morning.

“We are thankful that Queen Margaret’s School was willing and able to fill a spot at the last minute,” said DCS athletic director Tom Veenstra. “QMS was able to get some excellent experience and earned two wins as well.”

QMS eventually placed eigth at the tournament while the host team, went on to be chapions.

“This weekend the girls showed solid leadership skills and teamwork,” said head coach Michelle Nederlof. “They’re starting to move the ball around well and we have an offence that recognizes that any player can score. This tourney was a great opportunity to walk through what it takes to play in a final and what it takes to win the whole thing…which takes up a whole different space in a team’s mind. The girls respond to every opportunity. One of the many reasons they’re a great bunch!”

The road to the Championship started with a win over QMS - POG was Clare Scholefied.

In the Semi-final DCS defeated John Knox of New West - POG was Dara De Vries.

Our Chargers won the Championship game with an exciting victory over White Rock Christian Academy - POGs were Michaela Wall and Sydney Dollman.

Tournament First Team All-Star = Sydney Dollman
