Cowichan Secondary School’s junior boys basketball team lost all three games against some tough Island opponents in their home tournament late last month.

The junior Thunderbirds were beaten by Claremont, Dover Bay and Oak Bay over the course of the invitational tournament.

“The boys played hard at times and showed glimpses of potential, but unfortunately we got off to slow starts and could not recover,” coach Andrew Cochrane said. “This is a fairly new group of boys this year, with some being their first year of basketball.”

The young T-Birds team is hoping to qualify for the Island championships at Belmont Secondary on Feb. 16-18, with the top four teams moving on to provincials in Langley on Feb. 25-28.
