The Kerry Park Islanders closed out the month of December with three losses last week, losing on the road against Westshore and Victoria and at home against Peninsula.

The streak ties the team’s worst stretch of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League season so far.

It started last Wednesday with a 5-2 loss to the Westshore Wolves. Both Kerry Park goals were scored shorthanded, the first by Colten Thompson, and the second by Logan Walker, on a set-up from Thompson. Cowichan Valley product and former Islander Isaac Leik had a hand in all five Westshore goals, finishing the night with three goals and two helpers. Dryden DeMelo made 32 saves as the Isles were outshot 37-33.

Thompson scored both goals for the Isles the next night as they lost 7-2 to the Victoria Cougars. Thompson opened the scoring at 16:26 of the first and made it 2-0 at 2:38 of the second with his 10th of the season in just 13 games, but the Cougars answered back with four in the second and three in the third. Eric Young started the game and surrendered six goals on 33 shots before DeMelo replaced him for the last 11 minutes and stopped eight of nine shots. The Isles mustered 23 shots on Victoria netminder Jonah Chambers.

Back at home on Saturday, Kerry Park’s lone goal in a 4-1 loss to the Peninsula Panthers came on a penalty shot by Jack Strom midway through the second period. DeMelo stopped 36 of 40 shots while Peninsula’s Ashton Lukan stopped 34 of 35.

The Isles start December with another busy week. They played in Victoria again on Wednesday and will be at home against the Saanich Predators on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and against the Oceanside Generals on Sunday at 2 p.m.
