Lost weekend for Cowichan senior soccer teams

The foul weather forced the postponement of nearly all senior soccer games last weekend.

The foul weather forced the postponement of nearly all senior soccer games last weekend, and the two Cowichan teams whose matches weren’t postponed ended the weekend with losses.

The Masters C Cowichan Steelheads were the only senior team from the Valley to play last weekend, and they suffered a 3-0 loss at the hands of Lakehill Monkey Tree. The Steelheads are scheduled to visit Bays United this Saturday in what is supposed to be their regular-season finale, although they have two unplayed games to make up.

The Masters A Cowichan 49ers took a default loss to Gorge FC Backfit last weekend. The 49ers sit second in their division and visit the CB Red Barn Bobcats this Friday.

Div. 1-leading Cowichan LMG had a game postponed for the third time this season. In addition to those three, which will have to be rescheduled, they have two league games remaining, beginning this Friday when the are scheduled to host Bays United on the Sherman Road turf at 7:30 p.m.

The Div. 2 leaders, Cowichan United, also missed their third game of the season. They are in action this Saturday at home against Lakehill at 8 p.m.

In Div. 3A, Cowichan Red Arrow missed their second game of the season last weekend. The postponed match was to have been the team’s season finale.

Both Lower Island Women’s Soccer Association teams from the Cowichan Valley also had their games postponed. The Div. 2 Cowichan Outlaws are expected to return to action this Sunday when they host the Lakehill Reds at noon, while the Over 30A Cowichan Cougars have a bye this weekend and are scheduled to host Gorge on Feb. 19.
