The Cowichan Valley U11-A Capitals spent part of their Christmas break travelling to the Abbotsford U11 Rep Tournament held Dec. 27-29.

The Caps went undefeated with a 4-0-1 record in the round robin portion of the tournament.

Cowichan faced the host Abbotsford A2, winning 4-2 to start the tournament. They then ousted the Whatcom Warriors 12-6. A 3-3 tie with Langley’s A2 team was next before squeaking by the Vancouver T-Birds A2 team 4-3 to set up the gold medal game against the host Abbotsford Hawks.

“It was a hard-fought 2-1 final with goals from Eric Vaast and Oliver Brooks, and a huge game from our goalie Eston Clement,” said manager Gary Hui.

In other minor hockey news, the Cowichan Valley U13-T2 team also won gold against Abbotsford in their tournament in Chilliwack during the holiday break. Earlier in December, the Cowichan Valley U11-C1 Capitals earned silver at the Lake Cowichan Hockey Tournament, while back in late November, the U11-C3 team took silver at a tournament in Port McNeill.
