The last couple of weeks of play have shown tremendous growth for the Cowichan Cobras Div. 3 women’s soccer team.

After a 5-1 loss to Oak Bay on Feb. 5, the team bounced back with a 0-0 tie vs. Ladysmith on Feb.11.

“In the Oak Bay game, the team attempted to work on a new field formation in preparation for upcoming cup play,” said coach Darren Hart. “While the game proved challenging for the squad, it allowed them to try a new on-field system.”

The team’s lone goal came from Linzi Clair while Cowichan’s player of the game was Meghan Watkins.

Against Ladysmith, confidence with their new field formation led to many opportunities to score and a much better overall showing, Hart said.

“Strong defensive play by Jizelle Balae, Madeline Hart and Renee Kennedy in the back line allowed the team to have a much stronger attacking midfield with chances by Hannah McKevitt, Maya Johnston and Kelsey Thorne.”

McKevitt was Cowichan’s player of the game.

The team’s next game will be a cup game at home on Feb. 25 against Lakehill.
