Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022 marks the day seven new members will become forever part of Cowichan sports history. A ceremony at the Cowichan Golf and Country Club will be the first in some time.

“We’re delighted to be back hosting the inductee ceremony, after a hiatus of the program during the pandemic,” said Tek Manhas, chair of the Sports Wall of Fame Nomination Committee. “The Cowichan region has a strong community of past and present athletes, teams, coaches and builders, making it an easy decision to expand the number of inductees this year from five to seven. Congratulations to everyone on their amazing achievements.”

The 2022 inductees include Dano Thorne and Ken Williams, for their efforts in soccer; Sheron Chrysler for her efforts as a builder in the sport of running, particularly as a founder of the Ceevacs running club; Garrett Elliott for his work with fastball, Stan McKinlay as a builder in softball; the Stuart Channel Little League baseball team; and umpire Roy Price.

The seven inductees will be recognized with a paver located on the Walk of Fame, in front of the Cowichan Aquatic Centre as well as on the Sports Wall of Fame by a plaque and electronic biography inside the facility’s lobby.

The North Cowichan/Duncan Sports Wall of Fame honours the rich history of sports, coaches, athletes, teams, administrators and builders from our community.

The Wall of Fame recognizes individuals and teams that have made great achievements or contributed significantly to athletics locally, within the province, country or the world.

The Wall of Fame inductions are held every second year.
