It was a golden weekend for the Queen Margaret’s School senior girls’ soccer team. The squad won the the Independent Schools Athletic Association tier two soccer championships recently.
The event was hosted at St. Michael’s University School in Victoria.
“The girls had amazing success,” said coach Nick Zuback. “They won their first game against Brentwood B by a score of 3-1.”
Scoring for QMS were Jenna Stinka, Maggie Mycroft, and Barbara Pavlova Romero Anguiano.
In their second game, the girls played St. Margaret’s School and they held possession of the ball for over 70 per cent of the game, winning 4-2.
“Annelise Rasmussen had an outstanding game, scoring all four QMS goals,” Zuback raved.
The girls qualified for the finals on the Saturday morning against Crofton House B, who also won their first two games.
“Our girls showed tremendous grit and determination throughout the entire match, winning 1-0 to capture first place at the tournament,” Zuback said.
Layla Walker scored the game-winner while keeper Zoe Mycroft was awarded the shutout.
“This is a very determined and cohesive group that has their sights set on making it to the provincials this June,” Zuback added.
To date, the senior girls are 6-0 on the season.
In tier one play, Brentwood College School and Shawnigan Lake School were Cowichan’s representatives.
In pool A, Brentwood fell to both the host team and York House but beat West Point Great Academy to place third.
Shawnigan placed third in pool B, falling to Collingwood and Crofton House but beating Glenlyon Norfolk School.
The two south Cowichan private schools met in the game to determine fifth and sixth place with Shawnigan Lake School prevailing by a 1-0 score.
