Johnny Williams and Devin Jack both recorded hat tricks as Quw’utsun FC got 2020 off to a great start by obliterating Lakehill Hooligans 8-1 in Vancouver Island Soccer League Div. 3B action at Victoria’s Braefoot Park on Sunday afternoon.

“We started off pretty even with the Hooligans, but as we came closer to the half, we started to get the better possession and thus the majority of the shots on net,” Cowichan coach Peter Moses said. “We exploded into the second half with quick goals and didn’t let the home team tilt the field back. We had a near flawless defence and great ball movement from the back line to the front that contributed to two hatties and a goal from our midfield.”

Lakehill actually opened the scoring at 22 minutes, but it was all Cowichan after that. Jack evened things up at 43 minutes, Jedson August scored at 52 minutes, and Jack netted his second a minute after that. Williams scored three in a row at 57, 64 and 69 minutes, then Jack completed his hat trick at 70 minutes, and striker Ryan Andre rounded things out at 71 minutes.

“Just the boost we needed and the performance I have always known these boys can give,” Moses said. “Exciting times for Quw’utsun. I hope we stay on the wave for the rest of the season.’

The win moved Quw’utsun past Lakehill into seventh place in the division standings. The team still has four games remaining, which is more than anyone else in the league. Quw’utsun will visit Fred Milne Park Rangers in Sooke this Friday, then play host to JDF Blue at Si’em Lelum field on Sunday at 2:15 p.m.
