The 2017 Scotties B.C. Women’s Curling Championship at the Glen Harper Curling Centre got underway on Tuesday with opening ceremonies introducing the top eight women’s teams in the province, who are battling for the chance to represent B.C. at the national championships in St. Catharines, Ont.

The opening rock was thrown out by Vera Wilson, a member of the 1966 B.C. mixed champion rink skipped by Glen Harper, who was also in attendance.

The event runs all week, with semifinals on Saturday and finals on Sunday. Tickets are available at the door, and the draws on Saturday and Sunday will be televised on Shaw.
