Shawnigan among flagship female programs in sport school hockey league

Shawnigan Lake School will be adding a female hockey team to the mix next year.

After two very successful seasons of competition in the male divisions of the Canadian Sport School Hockey League, Shawnigan Lake School will be adding a female team to the mix next year.

The CSSHL is adding two female divisions for 2016/17, and Shawnigan will be among the flagship programs in the Female Varsity Division.

Shawnigan will be joined in that division by Banff Hockey Academy, Delta Hockey Academy and Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy.

The new Female Prep Division will include Edge School for Athletes (Calgary), Northern Alberta Xtreme (Edmonton), the Notre Dame Hounds (Wilcox, Sask.), Okanagan Hockey Academy (Penticton), Pursuit of Excellence (Kelowna), and St. Mary’s Academy (Winnipeg).

The CSSHL announced that the female divisions will include a full, competitive regular-season game schedule, as well as post-season games to determine division champions.

Shawnigan first competed in the CSSHL with one boys team in 2014/15, winning the Varsity Division banner. The varsity team repeated as champions in 2015/16, and the school added teams in the Prep and Bantam Prep divisions.
