Shawnigan Hills parkrun report for March 5

Runners wore purple to mark International Women’s Day

Shawnigan Hills parkrun celebrated International Women’s Day in style last Saturday morning as 34 athletes donned purple in what was the largest turnout since February 2020.

Thirteen first-timers took part and eight new personal best times were recorded, with Sharm Pederson continuing her fine form in a time of 27:16, and Travis Visscher, minus pushchair, recording 27:56, two of the highlights.

It has been encouraging, in recent weeks, to see so many junior runners taking part. The outstanding performance was from Amy Holloway who, in her first parkrun, broke the fastest time record in the JW10 category. With spring almost here, we hope to welcome many more youngsters in the coming months.

Walk, jog, run, volunteer or simply come and watch — it is up to you. Be a part of the community, make new friends and socialize — we meet at Shawnigan Coffee House post-run after each event.
