South Island’s Jordan Stringer skates against the North Island Capitals in a senior AA showdown at Fuller Lake Arena late last month.

Despite being down to seven skaters by the end of their road game in Powell River last Saturday, the senior AA South Island Knights managed to take the Regals to overtime, only to lose 5-4.

“Everyone that showed up played with tremendous heart and character,” Knights player-coach Jon Hollett said.

The Knights took nine skaters on the road trip. That number was cut down to eight when Blair Murphy was tossed from the game midway through, with South Island leading 3-1. By the end of the game, they also lost A.J. Dzhevelekyan to injury.

Tanner Wiersma finished the game with three points for the Knights, and Mattias Schmitt scored two goals. Rob McNutt was outstanding in goal, nearly stealing the game for the depleted South Island team.

The Knights will play host to the North Island Capitals on Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m. The Dec. 18 game with North Island has been cancelled.
