Only one of the five games on the Cowichan Women’s Football League slate last weekend went off without a hitch.

Three games were forfeited and one was played six a side, and only the last game of the weekend was played with full lineups.

On Friday night, the Wild had to forfeit to the Crew due to injuries. The other game between Blue Steel and the Ruckers started on time, but Blue Steel had to bow out just 10 minutes in. Jenna Bugden and Cassie Paterson recorded interceptions for the Ruckers before the game ended prematurely.

The trend continued on Sunday morning when Blue Steel again had to forfeit to the Storm. The Wild, meanwhile, mustered only six players for their game, but the Ravens matched them in numbers. The Ravens still ended up winning 46-6. Jamie Aitchison, Megan Lee, Jamie Russell, Kat Olsen and Leah McCormick scored the Ravens’ touchdowns, which included a pair of pick-sixes. Russell, McCormick and Lee also had converts, and Sarah Russell came away with an interception. Dieneke Pedersen had the Wild’s lone touchdown, while Ashley Bond had four interceptions and Kerry Hydes added two.

In the only game played with full personnel on both sides, the Crew slipped by the Law 27-26 in a game that went down to the final play. Janelle Mould scored twice for the Crew, and Marilou Sullivan and Ali Cooper had one touchdown apiece. Sullivan, Kate Collins and Jess Lines added converts and Collins also had an interception. The Law got two touchdowns from Britnie Hearsey and one each from Toni Williams, Wendy Charles and Jaimie Olson, with a convert by Charles.

Play continued in the Junior Girls division as well, with constant improvement by all the players.
