Women's soccer season ends on kicks

The Provincial Cup tournament - and the season - ended on penalty kicks last Sunday for Cowichan's senior women's soccer team.

Scoreless after regulation and two 15-minute overtime periods, Cowichan and Vic West FC went to penalty kicks.

Still undecided after five kicks per team, the game went to sudden death. Vic West scored first and Cowichan was turned back on their next attempt.

"We played hard but really didn't threaten their keeper much," Cowichan coach Marilyn Pugh said.

"We had some shots that went wide and some that were directly in the keeper's hands. We were actually very lucky we didn't get scored on during the game. They had a couple unfortunate shots off the crossbar."

Vic West finished first in Division 1 of the Lower Island Women's Soccer Association during the season, while Cowichan finished fourth.
