Young curlers got into action at the Glen Harper Curling Centre on Feb. 26 as the Duncan Curling Club's junior program hosted 11 teams for a one-day bonspiel.

The field included seven experienced competitive teams and four novice rinks, including two from the Duncan program at each level.

"The experienced event was particularly competitive with teams from Comox, Kerry Park, Qualicum Beach, Juan de Fuca, and Ballenas High School," Duncan junior coach Stephen Wiles said.

The experienced teams from the host club consisted of Emma Woike, Brooke Reintjes, Delaena Reintjes, Carley Hardie, Troy Cowan, Alden Thom, Elwyn Thom and an extra curler picked up from Parksville. The novice teams were made up mostly of first-year players, including Jackson Smith, Lily Hallquist, Poppy White, Kael Reintjes, Jakob Buttner-Danyliw, Preston Smith, Ian Meiner and Richard Zhou, an exchange student from China.

The junior bonspiel was sponsored by Farmer Ben's Eggs, Hardie Honey and Engel & Volkers.
