Young players flock to Biondo junior tourney

Nearly 70 young tennis players competed for 11 event titles at the 29th annual Biondo Junior Grass Court Championships at the South Cowichan Lawn Tennis Club on Aug. 4-7.

Nearly 70 young tennis players competed for 11 event titles at the 29th annual Biondo Junior Grass Court Championships at the South Cowichan Lawn Tennis Club on Aug. 4-7.

The Biondo attracted 68 tennis players under the age of 18, largely from across Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.

Event winners were:

Boys U12 singles: Roan Priatel over Ivor Emberton

Girls U12 singles: Veronica Dee over Carling Allaye-Chan

Boys U14 singles: Aidan Tseng over Koby Lai

Girls U14 singles: Madeleine Nolan over Zoey Qiu

Boys U16 singles: Reid Picken over Pip Walters

Girls U16 singles: Jenny Klenner over Viktoria Abanos

Boys U18 singles: Ryan Picken over Isaac Dee

Boys U12 doubles: Manver Boparai and Baltej Singh Hundal over Matthias Dee and Hayden Grech

Girls U14 doubles: Jessica Church and Jenny Klenner over Veronica Dee and Madeleine Nolan

Boys U16 doubles: Benjamin and Isaac Dee over Justin and Thomas Friesen

Girls U16 doubles: Viktoria Abanos and Jessa Michieli over Grace Haugen and Sonia Skobkareva
