Cowichan Neighbourhood House’s “Adopt a Family for Christmas” list is now out.
They’re urging everyone who is interested in helping families in need to sign up, pick a situation that suits them and their budget and get shopping.
The easiest way to get going is to email them at email@example.com and get the details.
What’s it all about?
Local families and individuals in need submit their forms to a registry, which Cowichan Neighbourhood House keeps anonymous.
Volunteers assign a number to each family with their gift wishes and information such as clothing sizes. They also cross check with other charities, churches, and First Nations offices to avoid duplication.
“This year, due to financial and time restraints, we ask that you prioritize gifts for children only. If you wish to add something for the parents it is your option to do so, but we ask that you prioritize the children,” organizers say to those wishing to sign up.
Once you’ve been confirmed for a family, you can either shop yourself or donate funds so volunteers can do the shopping.
Gifts must be dropped off no later than Saturday, Dec. 16 at 9806 Willow St, Chemainus (across from the Waterwheel). Volunteers will box the gifts if needed, assemble the food boxes, and arrange for distribution.
If you cannot provide for an entire family’s list, but may have the perfect gift for one or two on the list, let organizers know and very likely something can be arranged.
