Here’s what’s coming up in Cowichan

The Cowichan Watershed Board will be hosting The Great Bear Sea and Tools for Marine Ecosystem Protection, a free talk by guest speaker Kate MacMillan, on Monday, April 15 at the VIU Cowichan Campus.

MacMillan is the conservation director for the Ocean Program at the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society - BC.

The talk takes place from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and will include welcoming comments from Elder T’awaheiye Philomena Williams. It takes place in lecture hall 140.

The Speaker Series is also supported by VIU Cowichan and the Real Estate Foundation of BC.

The Cowichan Valley Naturalists are hosting a Karlin Creed, who will present “The Healing Power of Gardening on April 16.

This event will start at 7:30 p.m. at the Fish Health Building at 1080 Wharncliffe Rd., in Duncan

The Shawnigan Lake Rotary EcoClub is hosting their Shawnigan Community Annual Clean-Up Day on Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Participants should meet at Dougan parking lot along Renfrew Road, beside the entrance to the Shawnigan Lake Community Centre.

And for a different kind of entertainment, The Cowichan Valley Garden Club’s spring plant sale will take place on Saturday, April 27.

Plants are donated by club members and include everything from perennials to house plants, organizers promise. There will also be a Master Gardener to answer questions.

It takes place in the St. John’s Anglican Church parking lot at 486 Jubilee St., Duncan, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
