RentSmart aims to make you a smarter tenant

Having trouble with renting? A free course starting Sept. 6 aims to help you out with that.

RentSmart runs six Wednesdays from Sept. 6 to Oct. 11, 10 a.m. to noon at the Hiiye’yu Lelum – House of Friendship at 5462 Trans Canada Hwy., #106.

“By taking this RentSmart course, you can increase your chances of being a successful tenant,” promotional material said.

It addresses things like finding a good place to rent, keeping rental housing and knowing your basic rights as a tenant.

During the course you’ll learn such things as what landlords need and want from a tenant, budgeting and finance and how to improve your credit score, communication and conflict resolution, and how to improve references.

At the conclusion of the course, participants will get a certificate.

To register, call Joe Sam or Barb Sylvester at 250-748-2242.

Grab a burger and beer to support Tour de Rock rider

Saturday, Sept. 9 is the day and 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. is the time to support Cowichan Valley Tour De Rock rider Kris Wood.

Grab a burger and a beer and listen to live music at the Riverside Inn at Lake Cowichan to help raise funds for Camp Goodtimes.

Tickets are $25 a head and there’ll be a 50/50 draw and silent auction items to bid on.

Donations will go directly to sending kids to Camp Goodtimes.

“One child with cancer is one too many,” say Tour de Rock organizers. “It takes a community to put a smile back on a kid’s face.”

For tickets or for more information, please send Kris Wood an email at dolphin2370@hotmail.com
