Crab larvae are next on the agenda for the Cowichan Valley Naturalists.
At their coffeehouse on Nov. 6 at 9:30 a.m. biologist Bill Heath will be speaking about his work on Dungeness crab larvae monitoring in Cowichan Bay.
The event takes place at the Fish Health Building, 1080 Wharncliffe Rd. in Duncan
“Bill was able to attend a full day symposium about the project recently on Quadra Island put on by the Hakai Institute who are running the project,” the Naturalists said in a press release. “They have a research station there. It was attended by many of the 30 or so samplers like Bill, approximately 25 or so are in the Georgia Straight area. So he will briefly describe the life cycle of the Dungeness crab and can also talk about the research from last year and where they are at for this year.”
Heath specializes in shellfish, kelp and aquatic ecology, and is a director on the board of Project Watershed and the Cowichan Estuary Restoration and Conservation Association.
