Duncan’s Clements Centre Sock drive now underway

Non-profit aims to collect 2019 pairs of new socks

Donations are already coming in for the Clements Centre Society’s 11th annual Sock Drive. This year, the group aims to collect 2,019 new pairs of socks to give to those in need within the community and odds are they’ll accomplish their mission. In more than a decade, they have never missed their goal.

“We find that it starts off slow and then builds as we go along,” said Sheila Coogan, the Centre’s adult day program coordinator. “Once we get them all in we separate them all out and then we bag things up and distribute them around to various different groups and agencies.”

Socks from the drive have gone to many agencies in the Cowichan Valley in the past, including Cowichan Independent Living, Margaret Moss Health Unit, Hiiye’yu Lelum Society, Warmland House, Duncan Fire Department and more.

Cash donations that can be used to buy socks are also accepted. The deadline for donating socks is Dec. 6.

New pairs of socks for men, women and children can be dropped off at the Clements Centre Society’s headquarters at 5856 Clements St. There’s also a donation box set up at Mastercraft Flooring at 2727 James St.

“It gives us a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community,” Coogan said.

The Clements Centre for Community Living has been providing services for children and adults with developmental disabilities since 1957.
