Late in December Royal Canadian Legion Branch 210 Lake Cowichan received $11,919.22 from Veterans Affairs Canada.
The branch was one of 701 branches across Canada that received assistance from the $20 million allocated for veterans’ organizations by Bill C-4 last fall.
The money was distributed to local legions through Dominion Command and Provincial Commands, and can be used for expenses such as insurance, utilities, rent or mortgages, property taxes, and wages.
“Branch 210 is grateful for this support from the Canadian government,” the legion said in a press release, “as it will ease our financial stress and permit us to continue throughout the pandemic. Our main obligation is to ensure we can continue to support our veterans, members, and community. In 2020 our branch managed to contribute approximately $20,000 to different community organizations.”
