Students from Tansor Elementary School try out their skills at various trades

Students from Tansor Elementary School enjoyed their afternoon “trying a trade” in Cowichan Secondary School’s woodworking shop May 17.

All Grade 7s from around the Cowichan Valley School District have travelled to the high school to see if they might be interested in pursuing a career in the skilled trades.

They got to try some hands-on activities such as laying floors, plumbing and electrical work, instructed by Cowichan Secondary students. Morgan Lamont held the class on May 17.

This is the second year for this program which has been enthusiastically received by students, schools and parents alike as it gives young students the opportunity to make appropriate course choices to help them towards a trades career, if they are intrigued by the idea.
