Belly dancing: that sensuous, sinuous Eastern delight that has become so much a part of the Cowichan entertainment scene was front and centre at The 39 Days of July Saturday night.
With everything from the most traditional kind of dancing, to more updated (and upbeat!) numbers, there was plenty to enjoy for the large crowd at Charles Hoey Park.
The Valley’s belly dancers get together in the spring every year to hold “shimmy mobs” in the various communities to raise money for Cowichan Women Against Violence. This year, they collected $5,264 which they handed over in a cheque Saturday to the CVAW’s Jane Sterk.
