The area in front of Lake Cowichan’s Country Grocer store was thronged with people and activity on Saturday, April 22 as the store organized a community day in connection with its huge one-day sale.
Besides taking advantage of the bargains and seeing the 2017 Lady of the Lake candidates packing groceries, shoppers could visit displays and tables hosted by 27 local groups.
According to store manager Jenn Pollner, the event has been building since Lake Cowichan’s store took up the idea from another location in the chain.
Tents were set out to shelter the event as rain was expected: a disappointment after organizers saw a beautiful Friday slip by. But few events at Cowichan Lake are ever short of participants and attendees because of a little rain and, sure enough, the tables were busy as folks learned about everything from the seniors group to the chamber of commerce.
The community radio station was on site and had even lined up some live entertainment, and the Lady of the Lake candidates were out and about, taking the opportunity to greet family, friends, and supporters as their “season” begins.
