Vancouver Island’s funky dance duo will command the nation’s eye once more on Canada’s Got Talent.
A press release announced that Jacksun Fryer and Carlow Rush will take the stage as Funkanometry on this season of the talent competition series and face judges Howie Mandel, Lilly Singh, Trish Stratus and Kardinal Offishall.
The hip hop and popping dance duo were previously on the 2022 season of America’s Got Talent, and were eliminated in the semifinals.
Last season, another central-Island performer, Lantzville’s Raymond Salgado, made it to the finals of Canada’s Got Talent.
Fryer and Rush have a strong social media presence across numerous channels, including TikTok with 1.8 million followers, garnering millions of views and interactions. They appear across the province, either filming content or engaging with the public for pure entertainment. Recently, they danced to the Bee Gees’ Stayin’ Alive during a Vancouver Canucks game at Rogers Arena on Jan. 2.
The release noted that Funkanometry will vie for $1 million, “the biggest cash prize in Canadian television history,” and compete against talented acts from all over Canada. Of the 116 performing acts, 13 others are from B.C., and three are from Victoria – Brad Gooseberry, Holly Melville and Maninder Waraich.
Acts that receive a ‘golden buzzer’ during their routine will proceed straight to the semifinals and will also receive $25,000.
“Canada’s Got Talent’s million-dollar season is upping the ante with wild and weird acts, world-record breaking stunts, and several contestants who are pursuing their dreams abroad but now coming home to compete on the Canadian stage,” noted the release.
The season will start March 19 and can be viewed on CityTV or streamed on the app CityTV Plus. It will wrap-up in a live two-hour finale on May 14 from the OLG Stage at Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, Ont.
