Cowichan Lake’s Kaatza Lakeside Players have been given a new lease on life, following a desperate call for support last month.
Earlier in the year, the Players announced that their society would dissolve unless enough people came to an emergency “Save Our Theatre” meeting.
In a release issued last week, the society said, “Thanks to some new people stepping up to become board directors, we’re happy to announce that the Kaatza Lakeside Players will continue. However, we still need the support of our community if we are going to thrive as a theatre group.”
Suggestions for easy ways to help include: like and follow the Kaatza Lakeside Players page on Facebook; follow them on their new Instagram account, @kaatzalakesideplayers; and become a member. (Membership is currently only $1 or by donation and helps to support the theatre. Members will receive advance ticket sales to shows and invitations to special events. You can also become a member by attending Customer Appreciation Day at Country Grocer on April 27 or check out their website for more information: http://kaatzalakesideplayers.ca/membership.html
There is even more you can do to help, too.
How about volunteering with the group?
“We need people to help with lighting, costumes, scenery and props, and more. If you have a talent that you think you could use to help us, let us know! And if you’re interested in directing or helping to direct a play, please send us a PM,” said the release.
Of course, there is always the chance to audition for productions.
“We are so grateful for those that put themselves out there and help us pull off amazing productions. We know that it’s not always easy but we also know that acting is an incredibly rewarding experience. Watch for an actors’ call to come out soon.”
In addition, you might consider becoming a board director; they could still do with a few more people.
Finally, make suggestions, keep your ear to the ground for new ideas and watch out for further notices from the Players.
